ISOPH PART OF TEAM TO BUILD PORTAL FUNDED BY GATES FOUNDATION

Interactive Web Site Will Support Those Who Provide Public Access to Technology

Chapel Hill, NC (May 2, 2002) - Isoph™ has been selected as part of the team that will create a Web-based, public access computing portal for public libraries and other organizations that provide open access to information. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (www.gatesfoundation.org) today awarded the Online Computer Library Center (www.oclc.org) a three-year, $9 million grant to develop the portal.

Isoph is one of the four partners selected by OCLC to work on the project. Other partners include the Benton Foundation (www.benton.org), TechSoup (www.techsoup.org), and the Colorado State Library (www.cde.state.co.us/index_library.htm).

"The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has demonstrated great vision in funding the development of a public access computing portal," said Jeff Cobb, president and co-founder of Isoph. "Access, collaboration, continuous learning--all of these are key elements of Isoph's mission, and they will be core components of the portal. We are proud to be working with OCLC and such a distinguished group of partners on this incredibly valuable initiative."

As part of the development team, Isoph will be responsible for overall site design of the portal, integration of key components of its Isoph Blue learning technology, and development of e-learning content for deployment through the portal.

To help bring widespread public access to information technologies, the portal will be designed to serve the ongoing needs of public libraries in managing hardware and software, implementing advanced applications, training staff and patrons, and delivering digital library services. Content will serve five critical areas: continuing education, technical support, purchasing, capacity building, and community building. The portal will host a range of services and tools, such as online tutorials, training modules, Web casting, message boards, and expert assistance that will help libraries manage and enhance their programs.
